I Was Healed Of Cancer

"There is no cure", I was told; But God overruled medical science

September 15, 2022
By  Greg DesVoignes

I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You,
And You healed me.  Psalm 30:1-2

22 I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. 23 You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.  Psalm 22:22-24

On December 20, 2021 I shared with you that God had healed me of an unknown lung disease that is believed to have been caused by an immunotherapy I had been on to treat a type of bone cancer called Multiple Myeloma.  God has now continued with His mercy and healed me of this disease also.

As I noted in my message, "Is our health system of God, or something else", among having heart and kidney failure when I ended up in a hospital because of serious breathing issues, I was also told at that time I had Multiple Myeloma.  At that first diagnosis I was told that there was no cure for the disease but that it was maintainable with medicines as Diabetes is.  The doctor said that if I did not start the chemotherapy at that time, I would not be around in a couple of months.  He said I would have to be on these medications for the rest of my life.  This was the view and of medical science according to their experiences and observations.

The doctor told me this again about a year and a half later when the immunotherapy seemed to stall in reducing the number counts.  I asked him why the medicine stopped progressing the reduction.  His answer was, "Because there is no cure".  "Oh, how interesting", I thought to myself.  I noticed from watching the drug commercials that this seems to be the way pharmaceuticals operate. Take for instance a drug for Eczema boasts up to 75% reduction in skin issues in four months.  And there it stops.  The American Academy of Dermatology web site on cures for Eczema says, "There is not an easy fix. At this time, there is not a cure."  So basically you pay the pharmaceutical companies forever.  And that is what the scientific observation, experience and solution is with Multiple Myeloma.

But not so with God.  In pointing this viewpoint out to His disciples, Jesus said,

" 27 But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”  Luke 18:27

But somehow the stall in numbers ended and the cancer went into "remission" almost two years ago so I quit taking any medications.  No more chemo pill and once a month visits for an hour and a half of  immunotherapy infusion.  The doctor said that some patients could take a couple of months off and then resume again.  Again, it was said there is no cure. But as of this month it has been almost two years without any medications (which were making me sick and causing other health problems like the lung disease); way beyond the couple of months.

But it gets better.

I have appointments about every three months to go over blood tests and to check on the number index.  At the one a few months ago, the doctor wanted me to submit to a bone marrow biopsy to double check the "remission" status of the cancer.  I declined this due to finding that it can have side effects.  So he suggested maybe a CAT Scan of all the bones in my body.  I agreed to that and had one early last month in August.  This works by being injected with a radiated sugar.  Cancer attracts sugar and the scan picks up the radiated sugar and shows the lesions.

In my follow up visit to the scan a couple of weeks ago, the doctor told me that no cancerous lesions were detected.  The cancer was totally gone!  This was a virtual visit as he was at home with Covid, but he showed us the printout of the scan results. He said "Congratulations".  I said, "My God is an awesome God!"  My wife said something like, "God is good". There was no reaction to this by the doctor or the nurse.

Again, as with the healing of the lung disease; no fanfare or dynamic slap to the head, no visits to John Lake healing rooms or some false preacher / healer saying, "there is someone in the audience who has.... You are being healed."  No laying of a wrongfully placed guilt by the false faith healers because there was no healing by proclaiming the lie that there was not enough faith, which creates such horrid feelings of rejection based on their lies.  It was just another quiet removal of a disease from my body that was confirmed by the scan, just as the lung disease was confirmed to be gone.  It was nothing in me, only that I trusted in God's Word over man's, and hoped in His mercy.  It was all His mercy.

God had again confirmed his Word and the promises in it to me.  Not that I am anything to have received such mercy, but that God is glorified and His truth is manifested and declared (which I love to do).  God has a plan for us individually.  How He works with one may be different in the way He works with another.

The Path Toward Healing

The path walked to this point was not one I chose, nor was it a desirable one to be on.  It is my belief from the beginning of the illnesses and diseases, that God had allowed them to be placed on me for His purposes.  For this reason I was not afraid when I was told I had cancer, but felt God was taking me somewhere for some reasons which I did not know then, but became apparent as time went by.  I explained this in that article, "Is God in our health system; or something else".

These things were incredibly hard to live in and through.  At about the time I was given an overdose prescription of chemo pills, my back broke and I fell to the floor when getting out of a chair because a vertebrae collapsed after being eaten by the cancer.  There was a lot of misery, despondency and mind manipulating helplessness.  It was hard for my wife too.  She tried to maintain for me, but sometimes I would not be so good at keeping the faith and would bring her down.  I hated to see the sadness on her face and perceive the fear she sometimes had but did not want to show. Every time after the original heart surgery and seemingly recovering and getting stronger, the cancer medication would put me back in the hospital.    I felt like I was going backward and not forward at times.

I did not believe that medicine was of God for that reason, in part.  However I did believe in the promises God made to his children / disciples.  I weighed the things that I researched on this, what I saw, and what I was experiencing in view of God's Word.  I had in me the cries of  David in the Psalms of "where are you God?".  But I came to the conclusion that God's Word and His promises were truth and that the treatments and system were not.  I went through this over and over in my mind for three years and still came to the same conclusion based on Scripture, even though nothing was happening on the healing end.

My thoughts were; "Trust God!  Believe His Word!  Don't trust in man, nor in his system", which was really preventing me now from getting well.  God wanted to do his work, but perhaps I was hindering it.  Many in the Old Testament turned to their own understanding and minds instead of trusting His Word and the results were not good.  Even Abraham did this with thinking he could facilitate God's promise of a son through His wife's servant.  How did that turn out?  God said He would not give his glory to another and He would not allow man to take one ounce of credit for any of His wonders.

"I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." Isaiah 42:8

I would pray, and still do pray, "God, deliver me from the health system and it's medicines".  After one of my relapses and trip to the hospital because of being a recipient of the "risks" of medicine and experience the sever pain during the vertebrae surgery because they had to stop the anesthetic , I said to God, "OK, I get it now.  This is not of you.  Please take me out of it!"  But... Another trip down that lane again; another trip to the hospital came because of the lung disease.  And it was supposed to be non healing and lead to death.

But God Had A Different Scenario This Time

However, this trip was the beginning of showing the glory, truth, and love of God.  For in it and because of it, began the manifestations of healing which only God could have done.  If you have studied the Old Testament and the healings of Jesus, you can see that this is God's pattern.  He allows the situations to get to the point where He alone provides the deliverance from the evil.  Then and only then can it be seen that He alone is to be glorified.

Examples of this is the deliverance of Israel out of Egypt which was done by God and not man.  When they reached the Red Sea and were pursued by Pharaoh; to them it seemed as if they were doomed with no way out.  But God.... by His great power, divided the Red Sea and provide dry ground for all to pass through but closed the sea over their pursuers.

The battles in the Old Testament also show His power over the "impossible-to-man" situations.  One of my favorites is that of the Assyrian King Sennacherib's taking over Israel and Judah as seen starting in 2 Chronicles 29,  in 2 Kings beginning in 18:33 through 2 Kings 19, and Isaiah 36-37. Because of the apostasy of these two broken apart nations, which God at times called prostituted "sisters", God had allowed the Assyrians to take over the cities of these nations without any problem.  But things were to be different for the city of Jerusalem in Judah.  There was one good King of Judah at this time; Hezekiah.  Hezekiah had removed the idols from Judah, restored the temple and the Passover.  He was not perfect by any means, but now he became a target of Satan.

So having taken over all these cities and those of other nations, Sennacherib, King of Assyria comes to Jerusalem with 185,000 soldiers and places a siege around the city.  No way out, no way in.  This king, now actually being used by God, has his right hand man and mouthpiece, the Rabshakeh, tell Hezekiah to give in to the King of Assyria.

Let us look at this as how Satan tries to get us to give up and submit to his systems.

The Rabshakeh truthfully tells Hezekiah that no other god of all the nations they have conquered had ever helped those nations and cities against this king; including the cities of Judah (Hezekiah's own people).  In similar fashion, Satan comes to us with the voices of science of the health system and tells us, as I was told, there is no cure for cancer.  So in man's view, this is a fact, just as it was a fact that no one had ever beaten the King of Assyria.  Unfortunately this is the thinking of some in the Church and it overtakes the thinking of many.

This anti-Christ like false prophet mouthpiece said,

10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?  11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?  12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?  14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?  15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

16 And his servants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his servant Hezekiah. 17 He wrote also letters to rail on the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city 19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man. 2 Chronicles 32:10:18

The account in 2 Kings 18 says,

"31 Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: ‘Make peace with me by a present and come out to me; and every one of you eat from his own vine and every one from his own fig tree, and every one of you drink the waters of his own cistern; 32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive groves and honey, that you may live and not die. But do not listen to Hezekiah, lest he persuade you, saying, “The Lord will deliver us.”  2 Kings 18:31-32

To translate; "You can't be cured of cancer, no one has!  If you trust in your God and don't submit to the medicines, you will die.  Don't you see what cancer has done all these years?  THERE IS NO CURE! Didn't your doctor tell you this?  Didn't science declare this?  No god of any nation has cured anyone of this disease, nor has any medicine.  So what makes you think that your god will be any different!  Don't believe him.  Submit to me and you might live, even if it is living in my captivity in bondage to medicines.  Just don't listen to God's Word.  He won't heal you."

Sennacherib with his mouthpiece is so like the coming anti-Christ here.  After blaspheming God, like the anti-Christ, he declares himself above all the gods, including God, thus making himself as God.  Bad thing to do.

Hezekiah laid it all out before God, by praying to God, and told God the evil taunt that the mouthpiece had made to diminish God.  The result?  God said that in no way would this evil overtake Jerusalem.  He had a plan for the remnant of the people and this evil king would not prevail against it.

So, in the night, while the people of the city were asleep, God sent one angel, yes only one, and destroyed the 185,000 soldiers of Assyrian army.  True, they had never been beaten before.  But now God was glorified before ALL the nations by showing His power over this evil that had never been conquered.  In similar fashion God silently destroyed the cancer cells in my body that science said could not be conquered.  It was the same with the lungs before.

God's Word shows us many examples of how great His name is and His power over the ways of man and the evils of Satan.

But why me?  I am insignificant in the sight of the world and far from perfect.  A Psalm of Asaph showed me one reason why.  At the end of Psalm 73 Asaph said,

"28 But it is good for me to draw near to God;
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may declare all Your works."

Yes, like I told the cancer doctor, "My God is an awesome God".  God always confirms His Word.  I have just been blessed to believe it and to be a recipient of his mercy of confirmation.  So how can I not declare it.  That is our purpose!  It is truly "good for me to draw near to God" and to trust in HimPraise God!

Now to the main reason beyond this.

There would be some times when I would be laying in bed and feeling so sick and my wife would say "I wish I could take your place".  I know it hurt her and scared her to see me in the state I was in and she said this in love.  I told her I would not wish the way I was on my worst enemies, let alone my wife, whom I would not want to see in that state.

But then this realization came to me as I was reading the Word, that someone had already taken my place in this and put it all upon Himself;  Jesus.  In her love, my wife could not take it, nor could the health system, a work of man's hands.  Only God could.  He looked down on me with His love that surpasses all and removed it through His Son. God told us in Isaiah 53;

Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,  He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.  Isaiah 53:4-6

The health system can't do this.  It was God who sent His Son Jesus to take what we deserved, and take it from us and put it upon Himself.  So God looked upon me with this love and had His Son not only take my physical afflictions in my stead, but in this shows He takes our sins upon Himself and gives us salvation and eternal life.  In this He confirmed His Word.  His healings are a token, a manifestation of His eternal Kingdom that He has for us in His salvation.

It was King David who said;

Bless the Lord, O my soul;  And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,

Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.  Psalm 103:1-5

All of these wonders, done by God, are to draw man to God, to show His love for us.  Jesus said of His friend Lazarus who was sick,

When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”  John 11:4

And again in John 9:1-3;

"Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him."

To the seventy disciples Jesus sent out He said,

18 ...“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:18-20

While these seventy saw and performed wonders, Jesus said not to focus on these things, but on what was behind them and their purpose; their salvation.  Even though they saw and did these things, only twelve remained with Jesus.

I would that everyone would understand and grasp these things that God has put before us.  Am I perfect in health now?  No.  But God is doing these things His way.  When God led Israel into Canaan, He told them they would not defeat all the enemies at once, but over time.  But in the mean time;

"28 But it is good for me to draw near to God;
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may declare all Your works."

He has been so merciful to allow me to do this.

A Message To Those Who Don’t Know God and His Salvation

If you are not a believer, but you just might think that there is something to what you have read here, you may want to learn more.  God does not want anyone to perish eternally, nor to even go through the Tribulation which is seven years of Hell on Earth.  Here is a place to start to learn about the salvation that God has for you.

The ABCs of Salvation

Some people think a personal relationship with God is something only theologians can comprehend. Actually, God’s plan of salvation is simple enough for everyone to understand. Here are the ABCs of salvation.

Admit

Admit to God that you are a sinner. All persons need salvation. Each of us has a problem the Bible calls sin. Sin is a refusal to acknowledge God’s authority over our lives. Everyone who does not live a life of perfect obedience to the Lord is guilty of sin. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Since none of us is perfect, all of us are sinners (Rom. 3:10-18).The result of sin is spiritual death (Rom. 6:23). Spiritual death means eternal separation from God. By God’s perfect standard we are guilty of sin and therefore subject to the punishment for sin, which is separation from God. Admitting that you are a sinner and separated from God is the first step of repentance, which is turning from sin and self and turning toward God.

Believe

Believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son and receive Jesus’ gift of forgiveness from sin. God loves each of us. God offers us salvation. Although we have done nothing to deserve His love and salvation, God wants to save us. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God provided salvation for all who would repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Confess

Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to others. After you have received Jesus Christ into your life, share your decision with another person. Tell your pastor or a Christian friend about your decision.  If you do not go to church or have a pastor, ask God to lead you to a church that teaches truth and the gospel.  Following Christ’s example, ask for baptism by immersion in your church as a public expression of your faith. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Rom. 10:9-10).

Then take the time to learn from, and of God.  Study the Bible.  Get a New King James, New American Standard, or a King James version to begin your study.  The first two are easier reading.  The King James has more word study materials with it but the old language may be a little harder to read.  It is not about going from Salvation to Heaven, but the path that God has set for each of us personally between those events.

THE TIME IS SHORT!
